Interested in purchasing a Cabana Pergola from Backyard Discovery? We recently setup one in my parent’s backyard and are here to share all the details to help you decide if it’s the right purchase for you!
There are few things better than a backyard oasis where you can escape from the troubles of the world and spend time with your family and friends.
A few years ago, my parents redid their back porch and extended it quite a bit. Since then, it’s largely remained empty as they tried to decide what to fill it with.
When we had the opportunity to review a Cabana Pergola from Backyard Discovery, we knew it would be the perfect fit for their backyard.
The Cabana Pergolas from Backyard Discovery are lovely, and they can really add a lot to your home. If you are in the market for one, hopefully, this review will help you decide if this is a good option for you.
Selection Process
Backyard Discovery offers a variety of different colors and furniture options. The two main structural types are steel and then wood + steel supported. With the steel, there are different painted options, the wood is unpainted.
Beyond that, they have different seatings options. Because my parents often have lots of families over, we chose the option with the two benches in a bluish/grey color. One thing that kind of confused us was that some of the photos had a firepit in them – however, this is not included.
There are lots of reviews available, which was helpful. It was good to see that so many people had a great experience. I definitely recommend reading them for any answers to your questions.
Backyard Discovery also has a neat feature where you can scan a QR code to get an AR visualization of how the pergola would look in your space. I wish I had known this earlier because it might have helped my dad feel a little more confident that it wouldn’t look too large or take up too much space on the patio (which it did not!)
Delivery
It took a few weeks for it to arrive at our house. It was delivered on a pallet with lots of large boxes, and they were just left in front of our house. I’m not sure if all the delivery companies do this. With pallet deliveries we’ve gotten in the past, they’ve called us beforehand to arrange a delivery time, which I generally appreciate.
There were quite a few boxes, which we moved to our backyard until we transferred them to my parent’s yard. In hindsight, having them delivered to their house would have been a better idea, because
Setup
The setup process was quite intensive, and I think it probably took a total of five hours. Forrest did about 90% off it by himself, with some help from our oldest son and my dad (and I might have held something in place a time or two).
If you don’t have a lot of time or physical capabilities, you may want to hire someone to build it for you. The good news is that everything was labeled really well, and they had easy-to-follow instructions. Forrest downloaded an app that gave him even better instructions.
There were a couple of times where Forrest put things backward or in the wrong place, but that was more just from not paying close enough attention to detail. Despite the length of time, it took to assemble, it pretty much went off without a hitch!
I would say to be very careful with all the pieces. When all was said and done, there were some dings in the steel and some paint chips. Overall, though, it seemed to hold up to a lot of moving around.
Costs
The primary cost associated with the Pergola Cabanas from Backyard Discovery is the cost of the product itself, plus your time.
They have options that are listed between $1499 and $2999, though they are usually marked down. The wood pergolas are less expensive.
If you are not interested in putting it together yourself, Backyard Discovery does offer assembly services. You can click here to learn more about that and request a quote.
Overall Thoughts
The Pergola Cabana that we chose was the Ridgedale Modern Steel Cabana with Conversational Seating. We loved this one because of the bright, white exterior and the large seats with plenty of room for family to gather around.
Overall, it has quickly become a centerpiece of my parent’s backyard. We love going out there to visit, eat popsicles, and play games. We recently pulled out a card table and some other patio chairs over and had a fun game night.
My mom has told me several times how much they truly love their Cabana. I love how it really pulled together their patio and made it feel more enclosed.
If you are considering getting one of these Pergola Cabanas, I highly recommend it. I’ll admit I haven’t shopped around for many others, but we’ve been pretty pleased. Here are a few pros and cons to consider.
Pros:
- Pre-drilled, pre-stained, and pre-cut materials
- App and paper instructions are available, and they are very easy to follow
- All of the pieces were labeled well
- It is heavy – doesn’t seem like it will easily blow over. They recommend you screw it into the concrete, but my dad wasn’t ready to do that yet until he knew he definitely wanted to keep it AND that it wouldn’t void the warranty on their new concrete patio
Cons:
- It definitely took a long time to set up. There are a lot of pieces, and it’s not for the faint of heart.
- The furniture is attached to the pergola cabana – I didn’t realize this at first. I can see why it is, but it does make it so everything has to stay together.
- The furniture really isn’t that comfortable. It’s pretty firm, and we all kind of wish there were headrests since when you lean back, you just kind of hit the pergola.
We hope that this was helpful! Please let us know if you have any questions about these Pergola Cabanas in the comment section!
