Thanksgiving is a time for friends, family, and of course, feasting. But before the food coma sets in, it’s time to get the party started! These Thanksgiving decorations are cheap and easy to make, so you can focus on having fun. Or if you’re short on time, no problem! There are plenty of affordable options that you can buy online. So get ready to deck out your house in festive style!
It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year! Thanksgiving is right around the corner and Fall is finally starting! The air is a little more crisp, there are storms on the forecast, and the leaves are starting to change. Everyone is settling into a more structured routine, and if you’re anything like me, you’re probably getting an itch to start crafting and decorating! The beautiful thing about fall is that there is no shortage of creativity. You can get a million ideas by simply roaming the isles of Hobby Lobby!
Now that the autumn months are upon us, it’s time to start thinking of all the fun things you can make or buy to make your home as cozy as possible. Contrary to what Instagram and TikTok might make you believe, you don’t have to spend $80 on that trendy Pottery Barn pumpkin pillow to bring all the fall vibes into your home. In fact, you probably have plenty of items sitting in your craft room right now that you could turn into festive Thanksgiving decor!
I love using my Cricut to make Thanksgiving and fall decorations for my home. It’s so easy to use, plus you get custom pieces you can’t find anywhere else! It’s also fun when I can get my kids involved in creating these beautiful pieces.
If you are looking for some inspiration, you’ve come to the right place! Here are a few ideas for Thanksgiving decorations you can make or buy this year:
Cornucopia
A cornucopia is a great way to bring the harvest spirit into your home. You can buy one pre-made or fill one yourself with all your family’s favorite fall fruits and vegetables. I like to add a little bit of greenery and pine cones to mine as well. You can usually find cornucopia baskets at Hobby Lobby, Target, or your local dollar store! Add a table runner for some extra flair. Your kids and dinner guests will love it!
Wreath
Wreaths are always a classic, and you can never go wrong with adding one to your decor. You can find a fall wreath made out of almost anything these days. I love making wreaths out of burlap and fall foliage, but you can get creative with popsicle sticks, ribbon, wreath fillers, faux leaves, and faux greenery. There are endless possibilities! You can put it on your front door or inside your home.
Painted Pumpkins
This is a great activity to do with the kids! Grab some cheap pumpkins from your local Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree, and let the kids paint them however they want. You can use acrylic paint, spray paint, or even Sharpies! This is a great way to add a personal touch to your decor.
Thankful Tree
This is a really fun project that the whole family can participate in. Get a small tree or branches and put them in a vase or pot. Then, have each member of your family write down things they are thankful for on some Fall-themed paper leaves. You can even have everyone write down what their favorite Thanksgiving food is and hang those up too! This is such a cute way to display all the things you are grateful for this season.
Vinyl Letter Signs
If you have a Cricut or Glowforge, this is a really easy way to make some cute Thanksgiving decor. All you need is some Fall-themed vinyl and you can make signs that say things like “Give thanks,” “Grateful,” “Blessed,” or even just a simple “Happy Thanksgiving.” You can find vinyl at any craft store or online.
Banners
Banners are always a fun way to decorate for any holiday. You can buy pre-made banners, or get creative and make your own! All you need is some burlap, ribbon, vinyl, and a little bit of patience. Print vinyl letters that spell out “Give Thanks,” “Happy Thanksgiving,” “Happy Fall,” or any other festive saying you’d like. Next, cut your burlap into triangles and put the letters on each individual triangle. String them together with fun ribbon and you have yourself a darling, festive banner.
Felt Ball Garlands
These are so fun and easy to make! All you need is some felt balls, string, and a needle. You can find the felt balls at any craft store or online. Once you have your felt balls, simply string them onto the string using a needle. You can make these garlands as long or as short as you want, and you can even add in other Fall-themed decorations like leaves or pumpkins. These are perfect if you like a minimalist look. You can get your felt balls online or at local stores.
Mason Jars
Mason jars are so versatile and can be used for just about anything. I love using them to hold flowers, vase fillers, candles, etc. You can find mason jars at any craft store or online. They come in all different sizes, so you can find the perfect size for your needs. If you want to get really creative, you can even paint them or add vinyl letters to them. When it comes to cheap Thanksgiving decorations, Mason jars are a must.
Flower Arrangements
If you’re looking for a more sophisticated way to decorate your home this Thanksgiving, consider adding some flower arrangements. You can buy pre-made arrangements or make your own using flowers from your local grocery store. I like to add Fall-themed decorations to mine like autumn leaves, berries, and mini pumpkins. It’s a simple decoration but really adds to your home.
Vinyl Letter Mini Pumpkins
This is another great activity to do with the kids! Grab some small pumpkins and have the kids paint them however they want. Once they are dry, add vinyl letters that spell out “Give thanks,” “Grateful,” “Blessed,” or any other saying. This is especially fun and easy if you have a Cricut! To add more of a rustic feel to your pumpkin crafts, include white pumpkins and burlap. These are perfect for the dining table!
Candles
Candles are always a great way to add some ambiance to your home. This Thanksgiving, consider adding some Fall-scented candles to your decor. You can find these candles at stores like Bath and Body Works, Target, and Home Goods, but if you like a bit of a challenge, you could make your own using essential oils. These are perfect on your dining room table or in the center of an artfully arranged cluster of pumpkins.
Pine Cone Garlands
If you live in an area where pinecones are plentiful, this is a great way to use them! All you need is some string and a hot glue gun. Simply string the pinecones onto the string, spacing them out as you go. You can make these garlands as long or as short as you want. As a bonus, add cute ribbon and burlap throughout your garland.
Framed Quotes
This is a really easy way to add some Thanksgiving decor to your home. Find some cute Fall-themed quotes online or in magazines and frame them. You can use frames you already have or buy some inexpensive ones from a local craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. This is such a simple way to add some festive flair to your home. I have found some of my favorite fall artwork by searching “fall wall prints” on Etsy! It’s the perfect wall decor for the fall season.
Gratitude Wall
This is a great activity for the entire family to participate in. Simply find a blank wall or door in your house and hang up some Fall-themed paper. Have each member of your family write down things they are thankful for on the paper. You can do this every day leading up to Thanksgiving or just once a week. This is a great way to teach your kids about gratitude and the importance of being thankful.
Pumpkin Candle Holders
This is a really easy and cheap way to decorate for Thanksgiving. All you need are some small pumpkins, candles, and a hot glue gun. Simply cut a hole in the top of each pumpkin and insert a candle. If you’re not a fan of real candles, battery-operated ones work just fine. You can find these candles at any store that sells home goods or online.
Vases & Vase Fillers
Vases are another great way to add some Thanksgiving flair to your home. You can use them to hold flowers, leaves, berries, pinecones, or any other Fall-themed decorations. I like to fill mine with things like acorns, mini pumpkins, and leaves. If you want some extra fun and vintage flair, shop for your vases at your local thrift store. These are perfect for your dinner table or as a statement centerpiece.
Thanksgiving Place Cards
If you’re hosting Thanksgiving dinner, place cards are a must! You can buy pre-made place cards or make your own using your Cricut. You can get creative with these and make them as simple or as elaborate as you would like. Your guests will love your table settings this holiday season!
No matter how big or small your budget is, there are endless opportunities to decorate your home for Thanksgiving without too much effort. These are just a few of my favorite cheap and easy ideas. I hope you found some inspiration from this list!
