Glitter Ornament Tutorial

The past few days, Oliver has been begging me to help him make an ornament.

I had some glitter leftover from some glitter ornaments we did last year for a project for the youth at church, as well as for a class party.

So we bought a few more glass ornaments and decided to make some easy glitter ornaments.

This is seriously one of the easiest ornaments you can make – and the results are always beautiful.

For Jack’s class party, I actually premade the ornaments (because glitter and first graders is a recipe for disaster!), and then we had them put their fingerprints on them to look like Christmas lights.

So these glitter ornaments are a great option as a base for more complicated ornaments, or they are beautiful on their own.

I love that these are easy enough for any age and skill level to make them, but they look so fun. They are super easy to customize to with different glitter.

Oliver was a big helper with these, and he thought it was a blast!

What Type of Ornaments Should I use?

I prefer glass ornaments, but I did find some that were a bit more kid-friendly and were plastic.

They open up a little easier, and I don’t find the floor cleaner came out the top when shaking like the glass ones. I can’t find a link, but I got them in a set last year at Joann’s that actually came with the glitter.

You can really do this technique with any shape of ornament. You just need to be able to easily open it and put the Mop and Glo and glitter inside.

Vinyl for Ornaments

For the youth at church, I cut some Christmas-y sayings out of vinyl for them to choose from. You can click here to get that file. I also cut out a Nativity that I got from an external source.

What Type of Glitter Should I Use?

I’ve tried various kinds of glitter, and I find that small-medium glitter is the best. The finest glitter doesn’t seem to stick as well, and the larger glitter doesn’t always look as good. This is the kind we got and liked the most.

For less of a mess, I really like Advantus Brand glitter from Target. It has an easy pour spout, which is amazing and makes it a lot less messy.

Where Can I Buy Mop and Glo?

This is a pretty common cleaning supply that you can find at Walmart, Amazon, and your local grocery store.

Mop and Glo Alternative

If you have trouble finding Mop and Glo, you should be able to use Pledge floor cleaner as well! There may be some off brands at your local store that you could use as well.
