Cricut BrightPad Review and Light Pad Comparison
Have you heard? Cricut just released a new product – the Cricut BrightPad!
I was so excited when they told me they’d be sending one one in the mail to try out…I’ve seen similar products around, but I hadn’t wanted to take the plunge, because many of them had questionable reviews, and I wasn’t sure if I really needed it.
However, I’m very pleased with the Cricut BrightPad, so I thought I’d share a few thoughts in case you are trying to decide whether or not you want it – as well as compare it to other brands available online.
Here is a video review I did in case you are more visual 🙂
What’s in the Box?
The box contains just a few simple items – a product information guide, the Bright Pad itself, and a 6 foot USB power cord. It’s very simple to set up – all you need to do is plug it in!
How does it work?
There are just three buttons on the BrightPad – the power button, and a + and – button to adjust the brightness.
This product is helpful for reducing eye strain and illuminating the background for tracing, weeding, and even beadwork! Here is the description from the Cricut website:
“Cricut BrightPad™ is the brilliant crafting companion that illuminates projects for easier crafting and reduced eye strain. Use it for tracing, weeding, quilting, and more. It’s light, thin, and durable for comfort and portability. With its ultralow profile, you can trace sitting at a table or in your favorite chair. When weeding vinyl or iron-on, your design will be beautifully illuminated for quick and easy work. And paper piecing quilt blocks has never been easier! BrightPad makes crafting more enjoyable with its adjustable, evenly lit surface–use it for models, jewelry, needlepoint, and more. No more insufficient, overhead, or glaring light. Use BrightPad as your workspace, and make crafting simple. For use with US power outlets only.”
Pros
I LOVE how lightweight the Cricut BrightPad. It’s easy to hold on your lap, and it’s also easy to travel with.
There are multiple brightness levels. It gets very bright, so I recommend starting on the lowest setting and going up from there.
It seems very sturdy – I don’t see this breaking anytime soon.
It is scratch resistant with a 6H hardness level.
Cons
I would say the one major con to the Bright Pad is that it has to be plugged in to work. I have loved to see it with with a rechargeable battery, as I occasionally do craft projects and weeding in the car. This would be a nice feature to make it even more portable!
As of right now, it is actually out of stock on the website, which is a major bummer! I’m sure it will get back in stock though soon, since it’s sure to be a top seller for Christmas gifts this year!
Light Pad Comparison
Here is a comparison of the BrightPad with three popular products on Amazon. As you’ll see, the BrightPad falls right in about the middle price wise. I definitely think it’s a great product, but hopefully this comparison will help you decide. I tried to compare it to two similar products available on Amazon. There are cheaper light pads, though they aren’t typically as powerful and durable.
However, there are some that are a little less that are the same brands as the two listed above. Feel free to check those out as well!
