Making your own balloon arch takes some work and time, but the results are so fun! Here are some tips on how to make a Dollar Tree balloon arch for under $15!
Who doesn’t love a good balloon arch DIY? I know I do! We recently made this for my son’s 9th birthday using all Dollar Tree materials – read on to learn how!
How to Do a Balloon Arch
I remember the first time I saw a balloon arch. It was at a dinner and dance that was being put on for the youth at church when I was a young child – I think my mom must have been in charge.
We walked in the gym at the church, and I was amazed by the amazing balloon arch that seemed to span a huge part of the gym. I was so fascinated by it at that moment!
Since then, I’ve obviously seen many more balloon arches – though I don’t think I’ve seen any quite as big. They are popular for baby showers, weddings, and just about every occasion you can think of.
I thought it would be fun to try and make one using Dollar Tree materials only.
Tips and Tricks
Use a balloon pump
Not only will this save you a lot of time (and breath), but we feel like The Dollar Tree balloons were a little sketchy and not made of the best materials. I would definitely avoid putting my mouth on too many of them.
Blow up the balloons as you go
Pick a color theme
As you can see, we had a lot of random colors in our balloon arch. It turned out fun, but I would suggest focusing on just a couple of colors and buying balloons in those color schemes.
FAQs
How much does it cost to make a balloon arch?
This is always one of the top questions that is asked when it comes to balloon arches – how much do they cost?
They can range in price from dollars to hundreds of dollars (though the hundreds are probably if you hiring someone to make it – or you are making one that is huge!)
This Dollar Tree Balloon arch was only about $15 – we bought six packages of balloons, five-pool noodles, a package of balloon stakes, a balloon pump, and a package of twisty ties.
Have I used better? Absolutely. Did it get the job done? It sure did – and it was just $1. Great if you are in a pinch, and it saves you your breath!
I purchased these flexible twist ties with a dispenser. I really liked these because I could cut them off as long as I needed, and they were easy to pass through the tied end of the balloon. I bought it on a whim, but it ended up being a really good idea! Floral wire would work as well.
How do you get the arch to stand up?
This definitely won’t stand up on it’s own. We were in our house and pretty low-key about how it looked, so we just had a couple of lamps we tied it to – and we also used some tape.
If that’s not your situation, you could consider using some command hooks on the wall and tying it with some string or even stringing it to the ceiling (if it’s light weight enough) with clear string or fish wire.
What about the Dollar Tree Balloon Arch tape?
I wish my store had this in stock – it’s currently on backorder on the Dollar Tree website! It would have made this even easier. It’s 196″ long, and you can attach all the balloons you want to it. If you can find this in store, it will make this project even easier!
Materials:
- 100-150 balloons in various colors
- Pool Noodles (we used five)
- Duct Tape
- Balloon Stakes
- Balloon Pump
- Garden Collection Flexible Twist Ties or Floral Wire
Instructions:
- Attach your pool noodles together with balloon stakes and duct tape. We put a couple of balloon stakes into the center of each noodle, and then we taped with duct tape at the openings of the noodle.
- Look at the tips section for this post for advice on how to attach it to the wall or ceiling so the arch will stand on it’s own.
- Make sure it fits in the area you want and adjust as needed.
- Blow up your balloons – I recommend doing it just about five at a time.
- Attach your balloons together with twisty ties or floral wire. Make sure it is long enough to be strung on all the balloons and that it can be tied around the pool noodle. I put the twist tie through the tied end of the ballons and was able to string them together that way. If you can find a ballon arch strip, you can use that instead of the twisty ties.
- Place the balloons on your balloon arch, starting at the bottom and making your way up.
- Continue this process until your balloon arch is complete!
