Glenwood Hot Springs is one of my favorite vacation spots in Colorado. I have many fond memories of visiting here from my childhood, and I’ve loved creating new memories with my own children.
We recently had a family reunion in Parachute, Colorado, and spent a day at Glenwood Springs. I’m always trying to remember what to pack, so with it fresh on my mind, I thought sharing what I think you should bring along would be helpful.
From the moment you arrive, it is clear that preparation is key to fully enjoying everything this incredible destination offers. With that in mind, here’s my ultimate packing list to help you prepare for your trip.
Clothing
Swimsuits:
This may seem like a “duh” item, but people sometimes forget them. Bring a swimming suit (or two if you stay more than one day). If you forget them, they have swimming suits for sale in the gift shop and even rent some out. But for the most comfortable day, don’t forget your favorite swimming suit.
Swim Cover-Up:
A swim cover-up is perfect for walking around the pool area or grabbing a bite at one of the on-site eateries. It can also help protect you from the sun when you aren’t in the pool.
Water Shoes:
Don’t forget these (because I always do, and I always regret it)! Some rough areas outside the pool can be painful to walk on, and the pavement can be nearly impossible to walk on when the sun is beating down. Water shoes are an absolute MUST.
Flip Flops/Sandals:
These are easy to slip on and off when not in the water and are great for short walks around the facility. This is my favorite brand of sandals that I buy year after year.
Pool Essentials
Towels:
Bring more towels than you think you’ll need. They come in handy for drying off and lounging by the pool. They do have towels for rent, but I think it’s better to save your extra dollars for a delicious ice cream cone rather than a towel.
Goggles:
Goggles are a must if you love exploring underwater or have sensitive eyes. They’ll make your time in the water much more enjoyable. My oldest loves goggles and felt like it made his trip more fun having them.
Snorkeling Supplies:
My husband loves going underwater with a snorkel wherever we go. We invested in a full-face snorkel a few years ago, and it is always a big hit. I highly recommend bringing one of these along.
Pool Toys:
Especially if you’re traveling with kids, pool toys can add great fun to your day. Glenwood Springs allows you to bring in floaties, noodles, etc. We always like to bring diving toys as well (these diving sharks provide our family with lots of entertainment!)
Waterproof Phone Case:
Capture all the beautiful moments without worrying about water damage. A waterproof phone case is perfect for this.
Life Jackets:
If there are members of your group who can’t swim, don’t forget your favorite life jackets. But don’t worry if you forget them – Glenwood actually has a bunch that you can use free of charge as well.
Ear Plugs/Ear Plug Band:
If you get waterlogged easily or need earplugs, don’t forget them! Our middle child has perforations in his eardrums (surgery is coming up soon!), and he can’t swim without them. It would be disappointing to need them and forget them at home. Earplug bands are really helpful for helping them stay in!
Food & Drinks
Snacks:
Although you can’t bring food into the pool area, you can pack a cooler and leave it in your car. Tailgating before or after your swim is a great way to enjoy your favorite snacks.
Water Bottle:
Staying hydrated is essential, especially if you spend much time in warm water. Bring a refillable water bottle.
Additional Items
Sunscreen:
Even if you spend most of your time in the water, protecting your skin from the sun is crucial. Our family got horrific sunburns after our last visit, despite applying (and reapplying) sunscreen. That sun is strong in Glenwood!
Sunglasses:
The reflection of the son off the water can be quite bright. Sunglasses will protect your eyes and help you relax.
Hat:
A wide-brimmed hat can provide extra sun protection and keep you cool. Even just a regular ol’ baseball cap will do, though!
Bag for Wet Items:
Bring a waterproof bag to store your wet swimsuits and towels at the end of the day.
Packing for Glenwood Hot Springs doesn’t have to be a hassle. I hope that this list – created from my experience of going many times – will help you feel a little more prepared. Enjoy your trip, and make the most of the amazing hot springs experience!
