As parents we want the best for our children.
We want them to do well in school, make good friends, and excel in all that they do.

During the school year those are things that are easier to help them with- but what happens when summer hits?
A lot of time our kids get off schedule and they play all day and they might even begin to slip with their education and everything they learned during the school year.
I know I do my best to keep my kids are track during the summer but it can be hard- especially when it is so sunny outside and all they want to do is ride their bikes and play in the pool!
By all accounts playing outside is a good thing! But there should also be balance between outside free time and inside learning time.
There are several things we can do as parents and caregivers to help our kiddos thrive during the summer.
Carson Dellosa Summer Bridge Activities
I’m so excited to start implementing something new this summer to help my daughters keep up with their studies.
Carson Dellosa Summer Bridge Activities work books are something we have been working on and I can already tell that it will help my daughter stay engaged in learning this summer.
These work books make it so easy to incorporate 15 minutes of learning into daily activities over the summer break.
Our family rule is that they need to do at least 15 minutes in their work book before any screen time or friend time.
What I love most about these activities is that they can be done anywhere our summer plans take us! And with three kids- we are always on the go!
From the park to the beach to the airplane- you can easily carry it along with you in your swim bag, purse, or backpack.
It’s a great activity to keep their brain active and learning.
My oldest loves taking it on long car rides or even doing it outside in the morning- it helps her get fresh air, too!
Carson Dellosa Education workbooks encourage learning during the summer and is the top resource for continued education outside of the classroom!
Meditating and relaxation
Another great way to keep your mind sharp during the summer is to be sure to take time to meditate or relax!
Meditation might sound kind of hokey- but it is the one of the best ways to calm the body and mind.
We put on quiet music and sit still for five minutes every day. We take deep breaths and let our body’s relax.
Keep a journal
I’m a huge believer in journal writing.
It is a great way to keep up handwriting skills (in an world where handwriting isn’t always necessary) and most importantly- it is way to write down your thoughts and feelings.
Grab you child a fun journal- you can find lots online- and encourage them to take a few minutes every day to write in it.
One idea is to have them start that days page by writing three things they are grateful for, followed by what they did that day.
Consider coming up with different prompts for them to use. For example: “I am happy when…” “I felt proud today because….”
Move your body
Most importantly- keep your kids body moving in the summer!
Their brain will work better and harder when their body is getting the exercise and movement it needs!
You don’t want your kids cooped up inside watching screens all summer- so make sure they get outside when possible.
Even get them moving inside by having dance parties, doing yoga or imaginary play!
Summer doesn’t have to set back your kids with their learning!
As you can see there are a lot of great options to help your kids stay smart this summer.

Those books look awesome! We’re definitely using little school workbooks this summer, as well as making sure the kids all read books each day!
