I always thought it would be fun to have an intercom system.
As my kids are getting older, I felt like it would be especially helpful – to help eliminate yelling across the house when I have my hands full and am unable to go to another floor.
A few months ago, Nucleus emailed me. They offered to send me their video intercom system – free of charge and no strings attached. They made it very clear that I had zero obligation to ever even mention the system to anyone else. They just wanted me to enjoy it!
Well, after it arrived, I fell in love with the system, and I knew I wanted to share it with all of you. I reached back out to the company and was able to arrange a discount for all of you – you can get 20% off with the Nucleus coupon code CLARKS20 at checkout.
ANYWAYS. Because I’m all about making sure everyone knows what they are getting into – as well as knowing all their options – I thought I would share a comparison of three video intercom systems on the market today so you can decide what is best for your family.
I thought about sharing some details on some traditional intercom systems (with no video), but to be honest, I felt most of them seemed a bit archaic. Hopefully this overview will be helpful!
Nucleus Intercom System:
The Nucleus was created by a father who was hoping to make life a little easier for families. It’s an awesome device that is created to help you manage your home – whether you are on different floors, on the road, or have the kids at home with a baby sitter (or by themselves once they are old enough!).
It is a Wi-fi intercom system, so it doesn’t have to be hardwired. It also incorporates Amazon Alexa, which is pretty cool. My boys LOVE calling us on it when we are different floors. I also love that you can call the app – so you can have family download the app and your kiddos (or you!) can call them from it. I kind of think of it as a home phone, since we only have cell phones. I think it’s great for also checking in on your kid when they are in different rooms playing, doing homework, cleaning their room, etc.. We have one in our master bedroom, our boys’ room, and our living room.
It is very easy to setup and use. My almost two-year-old knows how to make calls on it. I love that you can use Alexa on it, and that there are entertainment features incorporated.
Of the three major in home video intercom systems, it is, by far, the most affordable.
Echo Show:
The Echo Show is the latest from Amazon – it has Amazon Alexa built in, and not only is it a video intercom system, but it’s also an entertainment device. It can stream audio and video. While it has similar features to the Nucleus, if you are looking for something that has more features and is more of an entertainment device than a home communication device, it’s a great option. You can also shop with it! It’s primary function is not as an intercom system like the Nucleus is, but it certainly has some of those capabilities.
NuBryte Touchpoint
The NuBryte Touchpoint is a very robust system that acts as an intercom, security system, and home hub! It can even control your lights. It works Amazon Alexa enabled apps, though it does not have Alexa integrated into the system. It is the most expensive of the three, but it does have a lot of great features.
Keep in mind that with all of these products, you may want to consider buying more than one. You can just use one, but to really take advantage of the in home intercom, I think having at least two is ideal – which is also another reason Nucleus may stand out, since the cost of two is less than the cost of one of the other ones!

I have an Alexa, 2 Echo shows in my home which we communicate room to room with and my daughter has several echo shows and echo dots at her home, she Ives 25 miles from us, and we talk to each other all the time and see each other if we are both using the echo shows. These devices have been a saving grace for us during COVID-19.

If I purchase 2 units one for each house would I still be able to live view each unit or do they have to be in the same house to do that?

Hmm, that’s a good question – let me see if I can get an answer for you!

My contact at Nucleus said that as long as you are logged into the same account, you should be able to use it!

DOES THIS WORK WITH ALEXA?
Katie says
It sure does!

This looks so cool! We had an intercom system in our house growing up and I loved it! It would be fun to have one now that I have my own family!
